Arcosanti – A Reminder on Keeping a Mission Alive

During our Sacred Travel to AZ, we visited ArcoSanti, a community based on architecture and ecology. Paolo Soleri, the founder, had a vision to house 5000 individuals in 15 acres rather than the 500 acres it would take in today’s model. He wanted to create sustainable living that also produced greater connection and ability to share resources. It has been over 40 years and about 5% of his vision has been completed.

While there, I had a feeling of sadness. It was a beautiful vision that didn’t have a completion. Yes, they learned from some mistakes. They discovered individuals couldn’t just come there to hang out but that they needed to work and contribute to the whole and that was an important lesson. But they didn’t evolve their vision as the world evolved.

There was so much potential- so much opportunity for life, beauty and living by principles. In my mind, they were lacking in leadership and governance. They were missing execution of a vision with urgency.

I am in the question of how do I contribute to keep my company’s mission vibrant and sustaining and growing. I know I have a responsibility to help others sort through that same question and create answers and direction. I need to keep my own transformation alive and growing. That is my goal, my journey this pilgrimage.
